Is a transfer battle set to take place for a Manchester City striker’s services?

Throughout this week the future of Julian Alvarez has dominated the headlines. The Manchester City striker finally spoke publicly about the speculation over his future. Pep Guardiola then issued his response to the comments made by the Argentinian international. It set the scene for an interesting week with the future plans of Julian Alvarez still unclear at this time. It appears that a battle to sign Alvarez could commence. That would occur if he does decide to leave the world champions. That could be the best scenario for Manchester City if Alvarez does seek a summer transfer.

First of all, El Chringuito’s Marcos Benito reports that Atletico Madrid is set to ‘go after’ Julian Alvarez. Furthermore, Benito reports that Atletico Madrid is optimistic about their chances of signing the World Cup winner. Lastly, Benito reports that Atletico believes they can offer Alvarez a favourable culture and climate for the Argentinian international and his family.

Second of all, PSGTALKS relays a report from caughtoffside.com that PSG are set to reignite their interest in Julian Alvarez. They also report that PSG manager Luis Enrique is a known admirer of the Manchester City striker and is keen to secure his signing.

If Julian Alvarez decides to leave then a battle to sign him is best for Manchester City.

In an ideal world, Julian Alvarez would remain at Manchester City and be a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season. That would be the perfect ending to the speculation surrounding his future from a City point of view. But if he was to decide to leave the world champions then a battle for his signature would be the best thing for Manchester City.

With PSG and Atletico Madrid reportedly eager to sign Alvarez the potential does exist for City to sell the striker to the highest bidder. While Alvarez would decide what club he wants to pay for the more teams interested in signing him plays into City’s hands. PSGTALKS has also reported that City would demand a fee totalling £77 million to sell Alvarez. The more clubs that move for Alvarez the higher the chances are of City securing their asking price. That looks to be a fair chance of happening with cashed-up PSG reportedly interested in Alvarez.

As previously mentioned the ideal scenario would be Julian Alvarez continuing his Manchester City career. But if that doesn’t happen then a battle to sign Alvarez would be the best scenario for City. All that is needed is a final decision from Alvarez over his future. Once that occurs then we can see what scenario comes to fruition this summer.
