Manchester City 2 AC Milan 3: City player ratings as City continue their preparations for the 24/25 season

Manchester City 2: Erling Haaland (19′), James McAtee (55′)

AC Milan 3: Lorenzo Colombo (30′, 34′), Marco Nasti (78′).

Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City went down overnight 3-2 to AC Milan as they continued their preparations for the 24/25 season at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Following on from City’s 4-3 defeat to Celtic the Premier League champions took on Serie A giants AC Milan in New York. The game was once again an open affair as both teams continued their preparations for the 24/25 season.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a quality piece of play from Oscar Bobb. But AC Milan would take a lead into the interval with two goals in 4 minutes from Lorenzo Colombo. Colombo scored in the 30th and 34th minutes to give Milan a 2-1 lead at half-time.

James McAtee equalised for Manchester City in the 55th minute with a close-range header to make it 2-2. The game continued to be an entertaining affair throughout the second half as both sides pushed for a winner. AC Milan would find the winner in the 78th minute as Marco Nasti fired home the winner for the Italian giants.

All told it was another quality hitout for Pep Guardiola’s side as they continue their preparations for the 24/25 season. Manchester City looked to have gone up a level from their defeat to Celtic and, at times, were crisp and classy in possession. Manchester City’s next friendly on their pre-season tour of the United States is against Barcelona in Orlando, Florida.

Here are the City player ratings from an entertaining game where the result is irrelevant as players’ fitness and touch take precedence over the result.

City player ratings

Ederson-6/10: Not at fault for any of the goals he conceded as he got through 78 minutes before being substituted.

Mahamadou Susoho-5.5/10: He played out of position, and at times, he looked lost. But did show the odd touch of quality at times.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey-5/10: Another good learning experience for Simpson-Pusey. Not at his best, but he will be better for the experience.

Callum Doyle-6.5/10: Easily City’s best defender on the night. He has the quality to make it at the highest level. He just needs more game time which he will likely get on loan elsewhere this season.

Rico Lewis-7/10: Lewis was once again ever-present for Manchester City. Looks set for a big 24/25 season based on his pre-season performances.

Maximo Perrone-6/10: Didn’t affect the game as well as he did against Celtic. Showed some glimpses of quality, but overall, it was a quiet performance from Perrone.

Nico O’Reilly-6/10: Not his best performance, but he did show flashes at times.

James McAtee-7.5/10: Scored one and was much better than he was against Celtic. It looks like he is set for a role with Pep Guardiola’s squad for the 24/25 season.

Oscar Bobb-8.5/10: Bobb was once again man-of-the-match for Manchester City. He was at his brilliant best and has gone up a gear from where he was last season. Set up Haaland’s opener with a nice assist.

Jack Grealish-6.5/10: Grealish appears set for a big 24/25 season. He wasn’t brilliant, but he looked fit and hungry. That bodes well for his prospects next season.

Erling Haaland-7/10: Scored once again, and looks fit and refreshed ahead of the 24/25 season.

Substitutes

Jadel Katongo-6.5/10: A quality showing after coming on. Could he play a role for Pep Guardiola next season? He has the talent.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand-6/10: He was much better than he was against Celtic. Showed some nice touches at times.

Kalvin Phillips-4/10: Another poor performance from Phillips. Based on his two showings this pre-season a move is best for the England international and Manchester City.

Micah Hamilton-7/10: Was extremely dangerous after being introduced. Hamilton has the quality to succeed but is there a spot for him in Pep Guardiola’s squad? That appears to be the question. Hamilton appears to need first team minutes to further develop.

Jacob Wright-6/10: Some nice touches again from Wright. He will hopefully get more minutes against Barcelona or Chelsea to show what he is made of.

Amar Fatah-N/A: Not on long enough to mark but there were some glimpses of quality from Fatah.

Scott Carson-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.

Josko Gvardiol-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
