While Manchester City have lost their first two friendlies in the United States there have been plenty of positives for the champions to take out of both games. Perhaps the biggest positive has been the scintillating form of Oscar Bobb during both games. Based on his form in the United States it is becoming obvious that the Norwegian international is set for a bigger role during the 24/25 season.
After his dominant display during City’s 4-3 loss to Celtic, Bobb followed that up with another dominant display against AC Milan. While City lost 3-2 to Milan the City academy graduate was again at his best. His dribbling and poise in possession were once again standout attributes of Bobb’s performance. He also picked up an assist when he set up City’s opening goal for Erling Haaland. It’s now obvious that Oscar Bobb has matured as a player after a full season with the City first team. That maturity should see him play more often next season. Bobb’s displays in the United States are just further cementing his position in the Manchester City squad for next season.

With a busier schedule awaiting Manchester City next season Pep Guardiola will need all hands on deck next season. Oscar Bobb has shown so far this pre-season that he is likely to be a key contributor next season. That is a positive for the Premier League champions. Bobb’s talent has always been obvious now he appears to be a more mature player which will aid his and City’s cause next season. With his ability to play out wide or through the middle, it’s obvious now that Bobb will feature more prominently during the 24/25 season.
Speaking after his team’s defeat to AC Milan Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Oscar Bobb. The City manager was full of praise for the Norwegian international while also telling the media that Bobb can still improve. Guardiola told the media post-game: “He’s electric; in the small spaces, he’s really good. Sometimes in the last part he has to be more composed and reduce his speed, for example the chance he missed he has to be more calm, shoot or pass to Erling and Jack. It’s a question of time, he’s young but his work ethic is unbelievable. He can play as a striker, pockets, right or left winger. When he’s comfortable he goes and dribbles, and when he does that it’s a big step for our attack.”
It has become obvious during Manchester City’s first two pre-season friendlies that Oscar Bobb is destined for a bigger role for City next season. How big a role he will play for Pep Guardiola’s side next season is up to the Norwegian international. But based on his form to date it could be a substantial one. That is something that Oscar Bobb has always been destined for since he burst onto the scene at Manchester City.
