Has Manchester City identified their Kevin De Bruyne replacement?

While it doesn’t appear to be happening this summer the time will come when Manchester City will have to replace Kevin De Bruyne. That will be no easy task for the world champions. But a new report suggests that City may have identified a player that could potentially replace the Belgian playmaker.

Christian Falk has reported via his Daily Briefing column that Manchester City has their eye on signing Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala as a successor to Kevin De Bruyne. Falk also reports that the Bundesliga giants don’t want to lose their young playmaker. Furthermore, Falk reports that he believes that Jamal Musiala has one eye on a potential move to the Premier League. Lastly, Falk reports that this fact could pose a danger to Bayern Munich’s hopes of keeping hold of Jamal Musiala in the future.

The day is coming when Manchester City will have to replace Kevin De Bruyne and Musiala could be the ideal candidate for the role.

There is no doubt that the day is coming when Manchester City will have to replace Kevin De Bruyne. The club legend is closing in on the end of his storied career. Despite this, he is still a valuable contributor to Pep Guardiola’s side. But a new report suggests that the time to replace De Bruyne for the champions may be at the end of the 24/25 season. Jeremy Cross has previously reported to the Daily Star that De Bruyne is set to remain as the world champions for the 24/25 season due to family reasons. Based on the report from Jeremy Cross the time for Manchester City to replace a club legend may come in 12 months. If that proves to be the case then Jamal Musiala may prove to be the ideal candidate to replace the Belgian international.

At 21 years of age, Jamal Musiala is a player with his best years ahead of him. As it stands currently he is also one of the brightest young prospects in world football. Musiala has proven his pedigree during his time at Bayern Munich. He was also a star performer for Germany at the recent European Championships. His standing in the game currently and his potential are well known. But his contract situation also lends itself to a potential move from Manchester City next summer.

Jamal Musiala’s contract situation may force Bayern Munich’s hand next summer.

Kiran Thikare has reported for bayernstrikes.com that the contract of Jamal Musiala is due to expire at the end of the 25/26 season. Thikare also reports that Bayern are keen to tie Musiala down on a new contract. But if they cannot it would open the door for Manchester City or any other club to strike next summer. Musiala would be down to one year left on his deal by the end of the 24/25 season. Bayern would be forced into a situation where they risk losing Musiala for free at the end of the 25/26 season or cash in next summer. That could be a problem for the German giants. While there is still an entire season to play out before that scenario becomes a reality it isn’t a far-fetched possibility at this time.

Christian Falk’s report indicates that Manchester City have identified Jamal Musiala as Kevin De Bruyne’s future replacement. Off the field it may be a perfect storm for City to make a stunning swoop in the 2025 summer transfer window. A lot has to play out for it to become a reality but City’s interest in Musiala and what happens with Kevin De Bruyne’s future will be two stories to watch for throughout next season.
