As it stands this summer Manchester City has only made one signing. Brazilian international Savinho has joined the club from Troyes. It is obvious now that the champions will only bring in players if players depart the club this summer. A new report now indicates that the potential of Julian Alvarez leaving the club may spark City into action this summer.
Sam Lee has reported for the Athletic that Julian Alvarez wants to leave Manchester City this summer. Lee further reports that Alvarez wants more game time and his family would prefer to live in a warmer climate. Furthermore, Lee adds that Manchester City are demanding £60 million plus £17 million in add-ons to sell the World Cup winner. Lastly, Sam Lee reports that Atletico Madrid aren’t willing to meet City’s asking price for Julian Alvarez.
If Julian Alvarez does depart it may spark Manchester City into action this summer.
It’s been obvious this summer that the world champions will only move in the market if a key player departs this summer. City have addressed the need for another winger by signing Savinho. The champions also haven’t addressed the need for reliable support for Rodri. But any other additions to the Manchester City squad are entirely dependent on players leaving the club. As it stands currently no one of importance has departed this summer. But based on Sam Lee’s report the potential of Julian Alvarez leaving could change that.
If Julian Alvarez does depart City this summer it will likely spark the champions into action. They would need to replace the Argentinian international given what he provides to Pep Guardiola’s squad. If he were to depart Manchester City couldn’t afford to sit idly by in the transfer market any longer. There is no way City could afford not to replace Alvarez. He provides cover for Erling Haaland and adds versatility and quality to Pep Guardiola’s squad. That would immediately need to be replaced. Under no circumstance do the world champions want to enter the 24/25 season with a weaker squad.
There remains a lot to play out before the scenario of Julian Alvarez leaving Manchester City becomes replaced. But if he does get his reported wish and leave City it could be the spark that sets City into action this summer.
