Manchester City went down to Celtic 4-3 overnight in their first friendly of the summer. But there were plenty of positives for City to take out of the game. Perhaps the biggest one was the display of Norwegian winger Oscar Bobb. Based on his display against the Scottish champions he looks ready to take the next step in his young career.
Although it was only a friendly it looked apparent from the start that Bobb has matured as a player. The work he did last season as a member of Pep Guardiola’s squad looks to have paid dividends for the Norwegian winger. Against Celtic his poise in possession and ability to beat a man was on full display. These were obvious traits in Bobb’s game since he burst onto the scene on City’s EDS side. It now appears that his game has gone up a level based on his performance last night. His assist for Maximo Perrone’s goal was one of the highlights of the night. That piece of play perfectly encapsulated all that is good about Oscar Bobb’s game. Another standout feature of Bobb’s display was the fact that he stood out at times playing in a more central role. That is a positive sign for the season ahead for Bobb and Manchester City.

Bobb scored one and set up Manchester City’s other two goals in their 4-3 defeat. He was by far and away City’s best player on the night. Based on what he displayed against the Scottish champions he appears ready for a bigger role next season. Pep Guardiola’s squad is packed with quality options in attack. City’s young Norwegian winger looks to another dangerous option for Guardiola to utilise next season.
Speaking after the game Pep Guardiola was thrilled with Bobb’s performance. The City manager is well aware of Bobb’s potential. He told the media post-game: “Sometimes he’s a bit shy but when he plays without fear he has incredible potential. He connected well, and Nico [O’Reilly] played well too.”
Although it was only a friendly Oscar Bobb looks ready to take the next step in his career. If his performance last night is a sign of things to come that is positive news for the world champions.
