So far this summer Manchester City has only made one signing. The champions announced the signing of Brazilian international Savinho from Troyes last week. But while it has been a quiet window for the champions so far Savinho’s addition looks to have added a new dimension to City’s attack.
Speaking before his team takes on Celtic to open their pre-season tour of the United States Pep Guardiola explained what Savinho will add to his squad. Guardiola explained that the Brazilian international is devastating in one-v-one situations and will be a quality addition to the world champions. Guardiola explained: “His impact at Girona was absolutely amazing. [Girona manager] Michel did an incredible job. He can play on the wing, and when he is one-v-one, he is devastating. He is young and to bring in one or two players to keep things fresh, it is necessary.”
Pep Guardiola also explained that the versatility of Savinho could be invaluable to his team. Guardiola added: “We cannot forget he is playing for the national team in Brazil – and he can play both sides which there are few [players capable]. We can use him in two positions we are very happy to have him. We say thank you to Girona because, without the job of the manager there, it is impossible to bring him here.”
Savinho will add a new dimension to Manchester City’s attack for this season and beyond.
It is clear that Manchester City have signed one of football’s brightest young prospects in Savinho. While the Brazilian international is only 20 years of age he has the potential to make a huge impact during the 24/25 season for the world champions. With his versatility to play on either wing and his dribbling ability coupled with his eye for goal and a pass, Savinho looks set to be a dynamic addition to Pep Guardiola’s side.
But Savinho’s addition does offer a tantalising prospect for Pep Guardiola to utilise next season. There is the potential for the City boss to deploy Jeremy Doku on the left wing and Savinho on the right which could prove to be a nightmare proposition to contain for City’s opponents next season. Both players can beat a man out wide and if they are both at their best City’s opponents will have a hard time keeping the champions quiet. The prospect of Doku on one side and Savinho on the other is a tantalising one to ponder for Manchester City fans. It stands to reason that Erling Haaland or Julian Alvarez could benefit greatly from their potential combination outwide. At some point next season Pep Guardiola will deploy the pair on the wings and it will offer a new dimension to City’s attack.
City’s signing of Savinho is an exciting addition for next season and beyond. The Brazilian international has the ability to add a new dimension to City’s attack. Once he settles into life at the champions it will be fascinating to see what he adds to an already potent City attack.
