Manchester City are once again linked with a Palace playmaker but is a move a realistic possibility?

Manchester City have been linked with a host of players throughout this summer’s transfer window. But to date, it has been a quiet window for the world champions. So far only Brazilian international Savinho has joined the club. But a new report suggests that City are considering a move for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze. But is a City move for the England international a realistic possibility? That appears to be the bigger question going forward.

Darren Lewis has reported for the Mirror that Manchester City are considering a move for Eberechi Eze. Lewis further reports that there is a release clause of £60 million plus add-ons in the contract of the Crystal Palace playmaker. Furthermore, Lewis reports that City have held a long-standing interest in Eberechi Eze. Lastly, Lewis reports that Tottenham are also interested in signing the England international.

Is signing Eberechi Eze a realistic possibility for Manchester City?

As a player, it does seem that Eberechi Eze has the talent to play on the big stage. He has shown his immense quality during his time at Crystal Palace. Eze is arguably one of the best players in the Premier League who plays outside of one of the top clubs in the league. Based on what he has shown at Crystal Palace he appears ready to play for a club like Manchester City. But is a move for Eze likely from the champions? He doesn’t appear to be a player that City are in desperate need of just yet.

As it stands currently there isn’t room in City’s squad for another playmaker. With Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva all in Pep Guardiola’s squad there isn’t an immediate need for another attacking midfielder. Eze can also play out wide if necessary but City are also well stocked for options out wide. Based on City’s current squad it doesn’t seem feasible for the champions to add another playmaker.

That situation may change if a key player was to depart Manchester City this summer. But as of right now Eze isn’t a player the champions need. A midfielder who can support Rodri appears to be City’s biggest area of concern this summer. That isn’t a position that Eze can fill. So while City have long held an interest in the Crystal Palace playmaker they may not move for Eze just yet.

But that could all change if a key player was to depart Manchester City this summer. But on closer inspection it seems that a City move for Eberechi Eze is looming on the horizon.
