Manchester City were reportedly never in the market for an RB Leipzig midfielder

One of the most consistent stories of the summer has been Manchester City’s reported interest in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo. At times this summer there have been conflicting reports over City’s interest in the Spanish international. Now a new report from one of the more prominent transfer reporters in the business suggests that Manchester City have never held talks to sign Dani Olmo.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported via his official YouTube channel that Manchester City were never working on a deal to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo. When talking about City’s reported interest in Olmo Romano said: “All the rumours for Man City were fake. City were not working on a deal for Dani Olmo, absolutely. They appreciate the player but they were not working on the deal.

Romano also repeated the statement on his official X account. He added that Olmo’s release clause expired overnight with no club triggering it. Furthermore, Romano also reported that Olmo may still leave RB Leipzig for a fee of around €60 million. Lastly, he added that Manchester City have so far not held talks about signing the RB Leipzig midfielder.

Romano’s report suggests that a report from Wayne Veysey for footballinsider247.com was wide of the mark. Veysey had reported that City were close to completing a deal to sign Dani Olmo. But based on the information provided by Fabrizio Romano that appears not to be the case.

As good as Dani Olmo there doesn’t appear to be room for him in the Manchester City squad.

There is no doubting the quality of Dani Olmo. He proved it this summer with an outstanding European Championships for Spain. He was one of Spain’s most important players as they won every game at the tournament to claim the crown. Based on his showings this summer there appears to be little doubt that he could fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad. But there does appear to be one issue preventing City from moving for the RB Leipzig midfielder.

As it stands currently there doesn’t appear to be room in the City squad for Dani Olmo. The Manchester City squad appears to be well-stocked for players who play in a similar position to the Spanish international. With Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Oscar Bobb and the newly signed Savinho in the City squad they appear well-stocked for options in the positions that Olmo can play. Unless a player was to leave the club this summer there just doesn’t appear to be room for Olmo in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Based on that information there doesn’t appear to be any need for City to move for Dani Olmo at this stage. That could potentially change but for now, there are other areas of importance for the champions to look at improving this summer.

The new report from Fabrizio Romano and a quick look at the City squad suggests there is no need for City to move for Dani Olmo just yet. For now he looks to be a player that City admire but have no room for in their squad.
