One of the biggest stories to break earlier today was a report from Daniel Orme for the Mirror that Kevin De Bruyne had agreed personal terms with Al-Ittihad. Orme’s report continued the recent trend of Saudi Pro League clubs continuing to show an interest in signing key players from Manchester City. A new report from Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on speculation surrounding De Bruyne’s future.
Fabrizio Romano has reported via his official X account that reports that Kevin De Bruyne has agreed terms with Al-Ittihad are wide of the mark. Romano has played down reports that a deal between Al-Ittihad and De Bruyne has been agreed. Furthermore, Romano goes on to report that the recent reports are untrue. Romano also reports that Al-Ittihad is focused on signing Moussa Diaby. Lastly, Romano adds that Al-Ittihad maintains an interest in signing Ederson this summer.
Fabrizio Romano’s new report appears to allay any fears of De Bruyne leaving City this summer.
Kevin De Bruyne’s future has been a constant subject of speculation this summer. Today’s news from Daniel Orme and Fabrizio Romano is a small snapshot of this. Given the stature of the Manchester City legend, his future is guaranteed to be a big story. Given that the Belgian international only has a year to run on his current contract this will continue to be the case until a resolution is reached on De Bruyne’s future. But Romano’s new report appears to be good news for the world champions.
Despite his age, there is no doubt of the importance of Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City. With his ability to play an incisive ball, coupled with his eye for goal and all-around play he is arguably one of City’s most important players. These abilities coupled with his experience and leadership make him an invaluable piece of Pep Guardiola’s side. When the time comes to replace the club legend it will be a tough task for Manchester City. But based on Romano’s new report it could be at least another year before City have to contemplate this possibility. Romano’s tweet isn’t definitive in regards to De Bruyne’s future but it does allay City fan’s fears that he could leave City this summer.
It has been an interesting day in regards to news involving Kevin De Bruyne’s future. Daniel Orme’s report gave the impression that De Bruyne could leave City in the near future. But Romano’s report has put a new spin on the subject.
One thing is certain based on both of today’s reports. If City enter the next season with De Bruyne in their squad they will be a better team than if he leaves the club. There can be no doubt about that fact.
