One of the success stories throughout Manchester City’s successful 23/24 season was the rise of Oscar Bobb. The young Norwegian international had an impressive debut season with City’s first team. With the 24/25 season coming into view will Bobb get the opportunity to make a bigger impact for Pep Guardiola’s side?
Last season Oscar Bobb made 26 appearances for Manchester City. He added 2 goals and 2 assists in those appearances. But what was apparent was that Bobb was more than capable of making it at Manchester City. His technical ability stood out as did his dribbling ability on City’s right-hand side. It was also clear that the young Norwegian international has grown up playing the Manchester City way. He has had his education during his rise through the City Academy. The base is there for Bobb to feature more prominently next season. But will he get that chance? That appears to be the question heading into next season.

As it stands currently Manchester City is well stocked for options in attack. With the signing of Brazilian international Savinho, it further strengthens City in the final third of the pitch. But the arrival of the Brazilian winger also provides more competition for Oscar Bobb for a role on City’s right wing. While Savio can play on either wing or in the middle he appears to be a player who could thrive on City’s right wing. This proposition would put him in direct competition with Oscar Bobb for a spot on City’s right-hand side. The challenge is now there for Bobb to impress during pre-season to stake his claim for a more prominent role for the champions next season.
There is no doubt that Oscar Bobb will develop into a key player for Manchester City in time. He showed enough last season to suggest that he has the tools and temperament to make it to the champions. He will no doubt be hoping for more opportunities this season. But whether or not he gets those opportunities may depend on how he performs this pre-season and during the early stages of next season. It will be interesting to see how Bobb performs during the pre-season to see if the signs are there that he will be a more prominent player in Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season.
