The possibility of a City striker leaving this summer doesn’t appear so far-fetched

One of the stories that has continued to develop this summer is the future of Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez. The Argentinian international is a key member of Pep Guardiola’s squad and it did appear that he was set for a long career at Manchester City. But more recently it has appeared that Alvarez could leave City this summer. Now it doesn’t appear to be too far-fetched that Alvarez could move on this summer.

TyC Sports’ César Luis Merlo has reported that PSG and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Julian Alvarez this summer. Furthermore, Luis Merlo reports that Atletico Madrid has made progress in their pursuit of signing the World Cup winner. Luis Merlo further reports that Atletico have begun negotiations with Alvarez over personal terms ahead of a potential move to the club.

All of a sudden it seems that Julian Alvarez could leave Manchester City this summer.

Based on the new report by César Luis Merlo it now appears that Julian Alvarez could leave Manchester City this summer. What had appeared as something that wouldn’t happen appears to be a realistic option. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Alvarez wishes to play more often. As previously reported the Argentinian international is already a key member of Pep Guardiola’s squad. But if he wants to play his preferred role he may need to move on with Erling Haaland being Manchester City’s number one striker. That scenario does appear to change everything in regards to the future of the City striker.

It does now appear to be a case of Julian Alvarez deciding what is best for his future. Typically City won’t stand in a player’s way if they seek an exit from the club. If Alvarez wants to remain at the club then City won’t sell. If he decides to leave then the champions may decide to cash in on Alvarez. But he won’t be sold for a cut price fee. A report from Mundo Deportivo suggests that a fee of at least €70 million will be needed to be paid for the City striker to be sold. If Atletico Madrid can afford to pay such a fee it may see Manchester City sell Julian Alvarez.

The possibility of Julian Alvarez departing Manchester City seemed too far-fetched only a few weeks ago. Now it appears that he could leave the champions if he decides he wants to move on. What happens next is now a story to watch for and it could force City’s hand in the transfer market if he does decide he wants to move on.
