There is no doubt that Sergio Gomez has the talent to play more regularly. Unfortunately for the young left-back, it won’t be at Manchester City. The path to City’s first team has been blocked for Gomez by more seasoned players. Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake are Guardiola’s preferred players at left-back. With his route to the first-team at City blocked a move to Real Sociedad is best for Gomez and Manchester City.

With Gomez having now left City attention will now shift to see if the champions will buy a replacement back up at left-back. The departure of Gomez does now leave a vacancy in the Manchester City squad. That is now something to watch for during the transfer window from a City point of view.
