It has become apparent that finding quality support for Rodri is the main priority for Manchester City this summer. City’s midfield general carries a heavy workload for both club and country. Finding a player who can provide City with the cover for their most important player looks to be a major need for the champions. A new report now indicates that City’s search for support for Rodri has led them to Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.
Dan Owen has relayed a report from Graeme Bailey for HITC that Manchester City have made their interest known in Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. It is further reported by HITC that Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool are also admirers of Gomes. Furthermore, Owen and Bailey report that Wolves aren’t under any pressure to sell Joao Gomes this summer.
Joao Gomes has impressed for Wolves and appears to be capable of providing cover for Rodri.
Joao Gomes had an impressive 23/24 season for Wolves. He was a key contributor in Gary O’Neil’s side as Wolves had an impressive campaign. That strong form saw Gomes play his way into Brazil’s squad for this summer’s Copa America. While Brazil crashed out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage Gomes showed he could play at the highest level. Those traits do give the impression that the Brazilian midfielder could provide support for Rodri.
The energy, intensity and aggression in the game of Joao Gomes stand out whenever he plays. He is also a quality midfielder destroyer which helps provide stability for both club and country in the heart of midfield. While he isn’t the finished product when in possession Gomes is capable of providing support going forward. Gomes is good on the ball, and a decent dribbler which is a good skill to have. His awareness when receiving the ball is one trait the Brazilian international can improve. But given his age and potential he could become an all-around midfield weapon in time.
City’s need to find support for Rodri is well known. Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes could be a player who could do the job for Manchester City. Now it seems to be a case of will the champions test Wolves resolve to keep the Brazilian international with a bid at some point this summer?
Joao Gomes is a good player and will only improve. Brazil international already. He’s very good for a middle of the table Wolves team. Over time it’s going to be hard for them to keep hold of him.
He scored two goals against Tottenham to win them an away game.
On his day looks a real player
I think this is a player we should purchase no matter it will easily be available for £60m. He’s proven player. It makes sense really.
After looking more into him as a player he does look more than capable of playing for City. Definitely a good player now with the potential to improve.
150mill should cover it. Otherwise, shove your fat wallet where the sun never shines.
