One player who has been consistently linked to Manchester City this summer is RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo. Olmo has starred for Spain during their run to the final of the European Championships. Throughout the tournament, he has consistently been linked with a move to Manchester City. But now there are conflicting reports that suggest that the situation is now cloudy surrounding City’s interest in Dani Olmo.
First of all Spanish publication AS reports that Manchester City are set to move for Dani Olmo. AS further reports that the champions are ‘expected to move with force’ to sign the Spanish international. Furthermore, AS reports that playing under Pep Guardiola for Manchester City could be Olmo’s destiny after the European Championships.
But Alex Crook has reported via his X account that Manchester City have no interest in signing Olmo. Crook adds that despite reports to the contrary City won’t be moving for the RB Leipzig midfielder.
The situation surrounding Manchester City’s interest in Dani Olmo now appears to be cloudy.
It now appears that the situation surrounding City’s interest in Olmo is cloudy. With reports suggesting that Manchester City are and are not interested in moving for the Spanish international, it is now a puzzling situation. The RB Leipzig playmaker has long been linked to the world champions. But there may not be room in Pep Guardiola’s squad as it stands currently for Olmo.
So far this summer no one has left Manchester City. Looking at the world champions squad there doesn’t appear to be an opening for a player like Dani Olmo, nor is a summer exodus from City appearing likely. The champions do have a host of attacking players who would be expecting to play next season. Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Oscar Bobb, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku are all important parts of Pep Guardiola’s squad. Adding Dani Olmo to that mix would see another player command minutes. Given that Pep Guardiola prefers a smaller squad the report from Alex Crook may be proven to be correct.
But that remains to be seen. However, there may be a definitive answer to Manchester City’s interest in Olmo. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Olmo’s release clause has been extended to July 20. It should become apparent by then if Manchester City will move for Olmo. If they are interested in Olmo they have until then to activate his release clause. But if City aren’t interested in signing the RB Leipzig that date will pass without the champions making a move.
The situation surrounding City’s interest in Olmo appears murky for now. But a definitive answer may be coming by July 20.
