With the transfer window open a host of players have been linked with a potential move to Manchester City. But the vast majority of them aren’t realistic targets or have any chance of landing at the Etihad. The latest player to be linked to the world champions is Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. A new report suggests that the Georgian international is suited to play for Pep Guardiola’s side. But a City move for Kvaratskhelia appears unlikely this summer.
In an exclusive interview with Bence Bocsák for footballtransfers.com former coach of Kvaratskhelia Gela Davitadze believes the Napoli winger would be suited to a move to Manchester City and the Premier League. Davitadze believes a move to City for the Georgian international would make the champions a more formidable proposition. He told footballtransfers.com: “Manchester City’s style is suitable for Khvicha. City plays amazing football with Pep Guardiola and I think in City, Khvicha would be one of the best players. I know City have very good players in this position like (Jack) Grealish and (Jeremy) Doku, I respect them but I think he could be even better and he could give even more.”
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would make Manchester City a better team but it’s doubtful that City will move for the Napoli winger.
There is little doubt that Kvaratskhelia is one of the most dangerous and dynamic wingers in world football. Across his time at Napoli, he has proven just how dangerous a player he can be. While the 23/24 season was a disappointing campaign for Napoli Kvaratskhelia had another quality season. He scored 11 goals and had 9 assists in 45 appearances for Napoli. He also was a standout performer for Georgia in their surprising Euro 24 campaign. Kvaratskhelia scored one goal during the tournament and was a constant threat to Georgia’s opponents. With his pace, technical ability and eye for goal Kvaratskhelia was a key piece of Georgia’s progression to the second round of the tournament. But despite his obvious qualities, it doesn’t appear likely that Manchester City will move for the Napoli winger.
As Davitadze told footballtransfers.com the champions are well stocked for left wingers. Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are currently the incumbents in the position for Manchester City. Kvaratskhelia is a player who thrives in the position. It is extremely unlikely that City would add another left winger this summer. There are more pressing needs for the champions this summer. Kvaratskhelia would no doubt make Pep Guardiola’s side a better team. His quality has been obvious for some time now. But given the champions do not appear in need of a left winger it looks to be a move that won’t eventuate.
Napoli have no intention of selling Kvaratskhelia this summer.
The other impediment to any club signing Kvaratskhelia is Napoli’s desire to keep hold of their star man. Napoli released a statement in June in response to statements from Kvaratskhelia’s agent and father that they had no intention of selling the Georgian international this summer. Napoli said: “About the statements of Kvaratskhelia’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli, and his father Badri, Calcio Napoli reiterate that the player has a contract for another three years with the club. Kvaratskhelia is not on the market. It’s not agents or fathers who decide on the future of a player under contract with Napoli, but the Calcio Napoli club!!! End of story.”
Kvaratskhelia is a player who suits playing at the Etihad but is unlikely to arrive at the world champions.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a player that would be suited to playing under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He could be a player who could further unlock City’s attack. Kvaratskhelia would add another potential match winner to the City if he were to sign for the champions.
But as listed above it doesn’t appear likely that City will move for the Napoli winger. So while it is a tantalising prospect to ponder it seems that Kvaratskhelia won’t be arriving at the Etihad anytime soon.
