So far this summer it has been a quiet transfer window for Manchester City. That is to be expected given the focus of many players has been on the Copa America and Euro 24. But as both competitions approach the business end of proceedings it appears that the transfer market is about to spring to life. With this in mind, two new reports indicate that Manchester City may be about to pounce in the transfer market.
Matt Hughes has reported for the Sun that the Premier League champions are interested in signing Eberechi Eze. Hughes adds that Manchester City and Tottenham are both willing to trigger the £60 million release clause in Eze’s contract. Eze is currently on international duty with England at the European Championships.
Danny Rust and Dean Jones report for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are contemplating activating the £51 million release clause in Dani Olmo’s contract. Rust and Jones further report that the champions are expected to be busy in the transfer window. Furthermore, the pair report that Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the Spanish international. Lastly, Rust and Jones add that City are contemplating moving for Olmo irrespective of who may depart the club this summer.
Is it a case of City moving for Eze or Dani Olmo or could they sign both?
It will be expected this summer that Manchester City will strengthen their squad. The world champions will be aiming to challenge for trophies on multiple fronts next season. To do so they will need to add reinforcements to their current squad. That looks to be a key point given the extra matches City will play next season. But could they sign both Eze and Dani Olmo to strengthen their squad or just one? That looks to be a different question entirely.
Pep Guardiola’s preference to work with a smaller squad is well documented. It helps the City manager maintain harmony within his squad with players not missing too many matches. It also seems to suit the world champions as the players build up synergy and continuity to adapt to their manager’s demands. Based on this it would appear that Manchester City wouldn’t move to sign both Eze and Olmo. If a key player were to depart the Etihad this summer that could change. But as things stand currently City moving for both players appears unlikely.
It could prove to be a case of the champions moving for either Eze or Dani Olmo. There is a case to be made for either play to join Pep Guardiola’s squad. Eze is Premier League proven and one of the best playmakers in the Premier League. This has stood out during his time at Crystal Palace. Dani Olmo’s quality has stood out during his time at RB Leipzig. He has further enhanced his reputation during Euro 24 this summer. The Spanish international looks to be a player who would be ideally suited to life at the Premier League champions.
Based on the two new reports it appears that Manchester City are poised to pounce in the transfer market. It could be a case of is it Eberechi Eze or Dani Olmo who the champions may make their move for this summer. That remains to be seen but it does appear that Manchester City are set to finally begin making moves in this summers transfer window.
