Heading into the summer transfer window there was a possibility that it could be a summer of upheaval at Manchester City. There were question marks surrounding the futures of several key players as last season ended. But a new report indicates that a summer of change at the world champions doesn’t appear likely this summer.
Sam Lee has provided an update in the Athletic on the futures of several key players for Manchester City. Lee reports that key pair Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne are now expected to continue at Manchester City next season. In Lee’s report for the Athletic’s weekly DealSheet column, he reports that De Bruyne is expected to remain at the Etihad. While there were reports last week of De Bruyne agreeing a deal with Al Ittihad Lee confirms that it is expected that the City club legend remains at the club for next season. Furthermore, Lee reports that despite Ederson reportedly agreeing personal terms with Al Nassr he is also expected to remain at the world champions. Lastly, Lee reports that Manchester City do need some clarity on Ederson’s future as the new season looms.
It appears that the Manchester City squad will have some minor tweaks and not an upheaval this summer.
Based on Sam Lee’s latest report it appears that City will only make some minor tweaks to their squad this summer. While there were question marks over Ederson and De Bruyne it now appears that will be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season. While circumstances can change quickly in the transfer window that is welcome news for the world champions.
Replacing players with the quality of Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson would be no easy task. The pair are key players for City and their influence on City’s squad is clear to see. There will be a time when the pair will depart the champions but it appears that bridge is now in the distance and not directly in view.
Sam Lee also reports that one player that Manchester City won’t move for this summer is Eberechi Eze. Matt Hughes had reported for the Sun that City were ready to trigger the £60 million release clause in Eze’s contract. But Lee reports that City aren’t planning to move for the England international. If City are about to pounce in the market it looks like Eze won’t be a player they will move for.
Based on Sam Lee’s new report it now looks like an upheaval of the Manchester City squad isn’t imminent this summer. While the champions will likely tweak their squad for the 24/25 season they appear set to begin next season with Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson as key players for the new campaign.
