It appears that one of City’s key pieces looks set to stay at the world champions

It appears that one of Manchester City’s key pieces looks set to remain at the club for next season. Bernardo Silva is currently starring for Portugal at Euro 24. A new report suggests that his path to an exit from the world champions may close at the end of the month.

Spanish publication SPORT has reported that the release clause in Bernardo Silva’s contract expires at the end of this week. SPORT also reports that this effectively ends Barcelona’s hopes of signing one of Manchester City’s key pieces. Furthermore, SPORT reports that that Barcelona can’t afford to make a move for Bernardo given the club’s precarious financial situation.

If the report from SPORT is proven to be correct the chances of Bernardo Silva leaving the champions appear slim. With his release clause reportedly expiring at the end of the month there doesn’t appear to be a large list of suitors of one of Manchester City’s key players. At this stage of the transfer window there doesn’t seem to be a large list of suitors for Bernardo’s services.

SPORT’s report could be welcome news for Manchester City. Bernardo Silva’s importance to Pep Guardiola’s side cannot be underestimated. He can play in a variety of roles and his work rate and exceptional technical ability make him one of the best players in world football. Replacing what he brings to the table would be almost impossible for Manchester City.

It appears that the clock is ticking on the release clause in Bernardo’s contract. If a new suitor doesn’t emerge by the end of the month then City will likely head into next season with Bernardo Silva remaining at the club. That would be a huge boost to Manchester City.
