Could Pep Guardiola be tempted to guide City through their next era of success?

Heading into the next season one of the biggest topics of speculation will be the future of Pep Guardiola. As it stands currently the 24/25 season is the final year of Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City. His future has already been the subject of speculation since the 23/24 season ended. Jack Gaughan recently reported for the Daily Mail that next season is potentially Guardiola’s last as manager of Manchester City.

Given Manchester City’s recent era of dominance in English football, the rest of the Premier League will be hoping that Guardiola does depart Manchester City at the end of next season. They claimed their fourth consecutive Premier League title and added the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup to their trophy cabinet. Since Guardiola took over as City manager in the 2016/17 season he has taken Manchester City to unprecedented heights.

But at the end of the 23/24 season, it does feel like Manchester City needs a refresh or a rebuild of their squad. To win 6 of the past 7 Premier League titles and every cup competition on offer has taken a remarkable effort from Pep Guardiola and his players. Nothing lasts forever and the time for the world champions to embark on their next era of success with new players is getting nearer. Players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Kyle Walker and Ederson have been absolute warriors for the club. But they are getting closer to end of their time at the Etihad rather than the beginning. Alongside their manager, they have taken the club to the top of English and European football. With that in mind, the champions will have to start building their squad for the future sooner rather than later.

Could Pep Guardiola be tempted to stay at Manchester City and look to build another era of Manchester City dominance? That isn’t out of the question despite reports claiming next season could be Guardiola’s final season at Manchester City. A new report from Simon Mullock for the Mirror indicates that City are hopeful that the prospect of rebuilding City’s squad can tempt him to extend his stay at the club.

As a manager, Pep Guardiola is the ideal manager to help rebuild Manchester City’s squad. His record as City manager speaks for itself and is still the best manager in world football. There is also an impressive core of younger players such as Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Rico Lewis, Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku, Oscar Bobb and more to build around. If Guardiola decides to stay at the club he will have an impressive platform to build the next dominant Manchester City side around. It is an exciting prospect to ponder but it does require Guardiola to decide to sign a contract extension.

Pep Guardiola is the perfect manager to help rebuild City’s squad. He has already shown that during this current era of Manchester City dominance. The hope is now that the challenge of continuing City’s dominance can tempt him to extend his tenure as Manchester City manager.
