A new contract for a one-of-a-kind star appears to be a priority for Manchester City

Manchester City face a busy summer now that the 23/24 season has ended. There will be players that will depart the club which happens every off-season. There will also be players arriving as the champions look to strengthen their squad for another tilt at history next season. With all this to come another player’s future has become a priority. A new report indicates that Manchester City are keen to get Erling Haaland to sign a new contract with the club.

Simon Mullock has reported for the Mirror that signing Erling Haaland on a new contract has become a summer priority for the world champions. Furthermore, Mullock reports that a clause in Haaland’s contract that would allow him to move to a club outside of England for £175 million has kicked in this summer. Mullock adds that the buy-out fee in Haaland’s contract will drop during the final three years of his contract. Lastly, Mullock reports that Real Madrid’s imminent signing of Kylian Mbappe and their signing of Endrick has boosted City’s belief that they can negotiate a new deal with Haaland.

Erling Haaland is one of several building blocks for Manchester City to rebuild their team around.

There is little doubt about Erling Haaland’s standing in the game. He is arguably the best striker in world football when at his best. He has won the past two Premier League golden boots and his goals over the past two seasons in all competitions have been integral to City’s success. His goal-scoring ability and his ability to create space for his teammates is a vital ingredient to Pep Guardiola’s side. Haaland is also one of the biggest stars in world football. Since arriving at Manchester City he has helped the club become one of the biggest in world football.

But as a player, Erling Haaland is one of several key building blocks for Manchester City going forward. He is a one-of-a-kind player and as staggering as it sounds his best years are ahead of him. Alongside Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku, Oscar Bobb and City’s other younger players they have the potential to be Manchester City’s future going forward. Pep Guardiola’s side has had a staggering era of success over the past 7 seasons but the time is coming for City’s younger players to take over from players such as Kevin De Bruyne and company who are getting closer to the end of their careers after staggering contributions to the world champions.

If Manchester City can tie down Erling Haaland on a new contract it would be a massive boost for the Premier League champions. It would give the club the security of knowing that one of their key players for now and in the future is going to remain at the club. Ahead of a busy summer Manchester City’s bid to get Erling Haaland to sign a new contract with the club is another story to monitor.
