A forgotten Manchester City midfielder has been linked with a potential summer exit from the world champions. A new report indicates that Manchester City is willing to listen to offers this summer for Matheus Nunes. But given that the Portuguese international only arrived at the Etihad last summer from Wolves, would Manchester City cut their losses and sell the Portuguese international? That appears to be the question to ponder based off of a a recent report.
Graeme Bailey has reported for HITC that Manchester City is ready to listen to offers for Matheus Nunes this summer. Furthermore, Bailey reports that the forgotten Manchester City midfielder is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. Bailey also reports that the representatives of Matheus Nunes are currently considering their options in regards to the future of the Portuguese international.
Could Manchester City sell Matheus Nunes after one season at the club?
Matheus Nunes was more a fringe player for Manchester City this season. He made 31 appearances in all competitions, but come the business end of the season, he was largely used as a substitute. On occasions, the quality of Nunes was evident. Arguably, his best performance of the season came in City’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final win over Urawa Red Diamonds. But on other occasions, he flattered to deceive. All things considered, it was a frustrating debut season for the Portuguese midfielder.
On his day, Matheus Nunes has to the potential to be a valuable member of Pep Guardiola’s squad. The challenge is there for him to earn himself a bigger role at Manchester City. There is no doubt he has the quality to succeed if he is given the opportunity.
But will he get that opportunity? That appears to be the bigger question. Depending on what moves City makes in the transfer window, it may make it difficult for Nunes to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans. That may see Nunes seek regular first team football elsewhere. But that scenario does appear someway off, given that the transfer window is yet to open.
It appears to be a case of wait and see as to what the future holds for Matheus Nunes at Manchester City. Graeme Bailey’s report indicates that Saudi Pro League clubs may look into signing the Portuguese international this summer. But it is too early to tell if the champions will sell the midfielder and give up on a player they invested a sizable transfer fee to secure his services only last summer.
