Manchester City’s most important player once again made his presence felt on the big stage

Once again, on the biggest stage, Manchester City’s most important player stood up to be counted. Rodri provided another immense performance against West Ham on Sunday to help guide his team to a crucial 3-1 victory. It was yet another big performance from City’s midfield general when his team needed him the most. Rodri is, without a doubt, Manchester City’s most important player. He is also the man for the big occasion, as evidenced by his performance on Sunday.

Manchester City went in at half-time during their 3-1 win over West Ham up 2-1. While they had dominated the first half a stunning strike from Mohammed Kudus just before the interval had given the visitors a way back into Sunday’s game. After Manchester City appeared to be cruising to a fourth consecutive Premier League title, the mood at the Etihad Stadium had changed at the break. Nerves and the ghosts of final days past had set in.

Coming out of half-time Manchester City needed a third goal to put the game to bed. In the 59th minute, it was Rodri who provided it to set City on their way to a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

In the biggest moments, it is often Rodri who steps up. He did it again on Sunday. Rodri’s Manchester City career is littered with such moments. His goal in last season’s Champions League final against Inter Milan won City their first ever UEFA Champions League crown. His goal against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final stage of last year’s competition set City on their way. He also scored City’s equaliser in their famous final day 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the 21/22 season. His goal on Sunday just adds another one to his resume.

Rodri’s performances this season have solidified his standing in world football. He is arguably the best midfielder in world football. It is hard to think of a player who has as much influence on their team as City’s midfield general. Pep Guardiola’s side only lost three Premier League games all season. They all came when Rodri was suspended. He is by far City’s most important player. While other players may win the individual accolades or get more headlines, Rodri’s standing at Manchester City can not be denied.

Rodri’s goal and performance against West Ham on Sunday was another big display on the biggest stage by City’s midfield general. When the world champions need a player to stand up in big moments, it is often Rodri who steps up. He was at it again on Sunday, which just adds to he legacy at Manchester City.
