Would Manchester City pay a fee of over £60 million for a Crystal Palace star?

Would Manchester City pay a fee of over £60 million to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze? The England international has one again starred for Crystal Palace this season. That strong form has seen a new report emerge that Palace would demand a fee of over £60 million for their star man.

Pete O’Rourke has reported for footballinsider247.com that Crystal Palace would demand a fee of over £60 million for Eberechi Eze. Furthermore, O’Rourke adds that there isn’t a straight forward release clause in Eze’s current contract. Pete O’Rourke also reports that Manchester City has previously shown interest in signing the Crystal Palace star. O’Rourke adds that Tottenham is also monitoring the England international.

Could Manchester City look to pay over £60 million for Eberechi Eze?

Given the nature of transfer deals in the current market, a fee of over £60 million for Eze does appear to represent good value. Eze has proven to be a top quality Premier League contributor during his time at Crystal Palace. Across 29 appearances in all competitions, Eze has contributed 8 goals and 5 assists. On top of his statistical contribution, Eze is often at the heart of Crystal Palace’s attacking moves. As a midfielder, he does appear to be the complete package in an attacking sense. Eze appears to be a player who could potentially fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Whether or not Manchester City will look to spend over £60 million on the Crystal Palace star may well depend on who leaves the champions this summer. If summer departures from City are minimal, they may not look to add a player like Eze to their ranks. However, if a player such as Bernardo Silva was to depart City this summer, that may force the champions into the transfer market. The England international isn’t the same type of player as Bernardo Silva, but he could come in and play a role similar to that of City’s Portuguese midfielder.

There doesn’t appear to be much doubt that Manchester City would pay over £60 million for Eberechi Eze if the chance arose to sign the Crystal Palace star. The reported price for the midfielder does appear to represent relatively good value in the current climate. It may not be the fee that is the impediment on any potential City move for Eze. Other factors such as City’s needs and who potentially departs the club will likely determine if Manchester City moves for the midfielder this summer.
