Will this summer see a significant rebuild of the Manchester City squad?

Could there be a significant rebuild of the Manchester City squad coming up this summer? Pep Guardiola’s squad are currently chasing success on two fronts as they chase Premier League and FA Cup double. But despite this, a new report indicates that it may be a busy summer transfer window for the world champions.

Danny Rust has reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City is set to splash the cash this summer. Rust reports that Lucas Paqueta and Jamal Musiala are two names on the world champions shortlist this summer. Furthermore, Rust also reports that Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Benfica starlet Joao Neves are two candidates to land at the Etihad as support for Rodri in the heart of City’s midfield.

What positions are the priorities for Manchester City to strengthen this summer?

There is no doubt that Manchester City needs support for Rodri this summer. Given the workload the Spanish midfielder carries for Pep Guardiola’s side, a player who can come in and either play with or give Rodri a rest is a must. City’s midfield general has carried a heavy burden for two seasons now, and it is apparent that he needs support. Bruno Guimaraes or Joao Neves both appear capable of filling that role if they were to arrive at the Etihad.

More creativity in midfield also appears to be on the summer agenda for Manchester City. Lucas Paqueta and Jamal Musiala would both bring this attribute to Pep Guardiola’s squad if they were to arrive at the club. Both players have shown during their time with West Ham and Bayern Munich that they are supremely talented playmakers. If one of both were to arrive this summer, they would immediately boost City’s attacking options.

One player who could benefit from their arrival would be Erling Haaland. With teams now employing a low defensive block with regularity at times to frustrate Manchester City, Haaland has cut a frustrated figure up front. Players like Musiala and Paqueta have the potential to help supply more service to City’s number 9. With their eye for a pass and technical ability, they both could help provide Haaland with the service he requires to prosper at Manchester City.

This summer may see one or two fan favourites depart the club to cater for City’s reported summer transfer splurge.

Also included in Danny Rust’s report is the potential of a key player or two departing Manchester City this summer. Two names mentioned by Rust were Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. Rust reports for GIVEMESPORT that the champions are expecting bids for the pair in the summer window.

If Manchester City are to spend big and bring in several new players this summer, it would be expected that there will be some departures this summer. While it is a possibility, no City fan would want to contemplate to bring in players such as Paqueta, Musiala, Bruno Guimaraes, or Joao Neves, a fan favourite or two may have to depart the club. The hope would be that it won’t be Kevin De Bruyne or Bernardo Silva given their stature at the club.

A busy summer transfer window appears imminent for Manchester City. While the reported targets for the world champions are an exciting possibility, the rumoured departures may see the summer window being one tinged with sadness for Manchester City fans.

But football doesn’t stand still. If Pep Guardiola’s side are to maintain their place as the dominant force in English and European football a retooling of their squad may be necessary this summer.
