Have Manchester City picked up another injury concern after last night’s draw with Real Madrid?

While the quality of the game between Manchester City and Real Madrid is the talk of the football world today, there may be another story developing our last night’s epic encounter. With Nathan Ake and Kyle Walker currently sidelined due to injury, have the European champions picked up another injury to a key defender?

Speaking post game in an interview relayed by Jack Gaughan for the Daily Mail, Rodri revealed that John Stones played through ‘tightness’ during the second half of last night’s game. City’s midfield lynchpin explained: “John (Stones) was tight and had some problems at the end. But he showed his courage because he knew that the team needed him. He didn’t say ‘I need to go’. He stayed until the end – this is the kind of thing we’re going to need.”

The Spanish international also explained that he is in need of rest. It has become apparent during City’s past two games that Rodri is suffering from fatigue after such a heavy workload for both club and country. Rodri explained: “I do need a rest. It is something we are planning. Let’s see how we speak, how we live the situation. Sometimes, it is what it is, and I need to adjust.”

The condition of the Manchester City squad may become a crucial factor in their treble defence this season. Fighting for trophies on three fronts means Pep Guardiola’s squad is pushed to their physical limits. It is par for the course for the City squad, but the physical condition of the players could become a bigger story during the final stages of this season. How Pep Guardiola rotates his squad may become crucial during the run home.
