Manchester City will take it game by game through the business end of the season

Manchester City will take it game by game as they attempt to win a fourth consecutive Premier League crown and defend the treble they won famously last season. While another historic season could await Pep Guardiola’s side, they can not afford to look too far ahead as they chase history this campaign.

In an interview with SkySports, Manchester City captain Kyle Walker shared his thoughts on this season’s title race. Walker believes his team’s experience could be a critical factor in the title race. The City captain explained: “I don’t think no one has got the edge. We are where we are; Arsenal at the top of the league with a point. We’ve got some tough games like the rest of them. We’ve all got tough games. We know the Premier League. We’ve been here many years, and we’ve seen a lot of twists and turns, ups and downs. So there’s a lot of football to be played as you say, there’s 10 big, important games to play. Hopefully for Manchester City we go and do that big four-in-a-row which no-ones ever done.”

The Manchester City captain also explained that his team is only focused on their next game. Walker believes there is nothing to be gained from looking too far ahead. He added: “In the midst of all that, we’ve got the FA Cup, we’ve got the Champions League. There’s going to be injuries, there’s going to be setbacks, and you just have to manage each game as it comes. I’m a big believer in that. Don’t look too far into the future. You do a game at a time because I feel that’s the only thing you can affect.”

Manchester City’s title winning experience could be a decisive factor in this season’s Premier League title race. The champions host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in a critical Premier League clash that could have massive implications in this season’s title race. A win could be huge for either side given the state of play currently this season. But it won’t be a title clinching result given how many games are left this season.

The ability of Pep Guardiola’s side to only focus on their next game could also be another key factor in their bid to defend this campaign. While it is natural to look ahead the world champions can’t afford to let their focus drift onto what may come this season. With such a busy schedule ahead of Manchester City they can only focus on what they can control. This ability of the City squad was evident last campaign as they stormed their way to the treble. They will be hoping to utilise this ability again this campaign.

To repeat last season’s heroics Manchester City can only focus on what comes next. Kyle Walker’s comments show that is the focus of Pep Guardiola’s side for the business end of the season.
