Steven Mcinerney reacts as Manchester City cruise past FC Copenhagen

Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney reacts to Manchester City’s comfortable 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen at the Etihad Stadium last night. Pep Guardiola’s side booked their passage to the quarter-finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League with a 6-2 aggregate win over Jacob Neestrup’s side.

The Round of 16 tie was effectively put to bed in the opening 10 minutes of last night’s game. Goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez to begin the game gave City a 5-1 aggregate lead and left FC Copenhagen no hope of overhauling the aggregate lead. To the visitor’s credit, they did try and fight their way back into the game after falling 2-nil down. They scored with a cracking counter-attack through Mohamed Elyounoussi in the 29th minute. A 45th-minute Erling Haaland strike ended the game by the interval and allowed City to cruise to a 6-2 aggregate win.

Last night’s starting lineup saw Pep Guardiola rotate his squad. The City manager made 7 changes to the side that beat Manchester United last night. With last night’s game sandwiched between last weekend’s derby and this weekend’s trip to Anfield, it was the ideal opportunity for some of City’s squad players to start. A chance for squad rotation may be fleeting from here on in and it could be vital as Manchester City chase history.
