Has Manchester City’s academy jewel now become the best player in the Premier League? Phil Foden inspired Manchester City to a 3-1 win over arch-rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium yesterday. It was one of the best performances in the young career of Phil Foden. His display was so good that it does pose the question if there is a better player than Foden currently in the Premier League?
The past month has seen Manchester City’s academy jewel be an inspirational figure for his team. He has been a key player as Pep Guardiola’s side seeks to repeat their treble success from last season. Foden hit a hat trick in City’s 3-1 win over Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium. He was also the dominant player against Bournemouth last weekend in City’s hard-fought 1-nil win at the Vitality Stadium. His brace yesterday against Manchester United inspired his team to a crucial derby win. Foden was the hero in a must-win game for City. In the scheme of City’s chase for a fourth consecutive Premier League title three points were a must yesterday.
On exposed form, there doesn’t appear to be a better player in the Premier League. There are other candidates for the title like Foden’s teammate Rodri, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka or Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk just to name a few. But in terms of influence on the pitch, it is hard to go past Foden as the best player in the Premier League.
Ally McCoist speaking on talkSPORT believes Foden has taken the mantle of the best player in the Premier League. Given the exceptional form of Foden this season it is hard to make a case against Foden being the best player in the Premier League.
