This season has seen City’s wonderboy take his game to another level. Foden has matured as a player but last night’s performance was another step up for the England international. Given more responsibility in midfield, Foden was by far his team’s best performer in what was a virtuoso display from Foden. He dictated the game and was his team’s biggest attacking threat as he pulled the strings from midfield. It has always appeared that Foden’s future lies in midfield and his performance against Bournemouth shows that the future has arrived for Manchester City.
Foden has shone in midfield this season but his performance against Bournemouth was on a whole new level. With his team on the back foot for large spells of yesterday’s game Foden stepped up and put his team on his back. His display shows just how far he has come and what type of player he will become for Manchester City.
Speaking post game Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Phil Foden. The City boss told the media that City’s wonderboy has developed into a world-class player. He said: “Forget about the goals – of course they are important – but do you know how he played? How he controlled and accelerated. He has become already a top-class football player. From a little boy, now he has become already Phil, a world-class, top player. He’s so good. He can play everywhere, especially in the central position and play really, really good.”
Manchester City’s midfield future arrived at the Vitality Stadium in their crucial 1-nil win over Bournemouth.
