Manchester City’s global star looks set to remain at the world champions

Manchester City’s global star Erling Haaland looks set to remain at the club this summer and possibly beyond. Spanish publication AS had previously linked Haaland with a move to Real Madrid. But that prospect doesn’t appear to be imminent based on a recent report.

Sam Lee reports for the Athletic that people close to Manchester City’s global star have laughed off links to the La Liga powerhouse. Furthermore, Lee also reports that Haaland is open to extending his stay at the world champions. Sam Lee adds that given the size of Erling Haaland’s contract, there aren’t many clubs across Europe that could afford to secure the striker’s services.

The prospect of Erling Haaland first staying at Manchester City this summer and possibly extending his contract at the club is an exciting proposition for the club. He hit the ground running last season and was a key part of City winning the treble. Despite missing two months this campaign due to a foot injury Haaland is the top scorer in the Premier League with 17 goals. He has scored 22 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for the season so far.

While there is an obvious benefit of Manchester City retaining Erling Haaland’s services on the pitch there is also an impact off the pitch. Jack Gaughan has previously reported for the Daily Mail on Haaland’s immense marketability. The world champions have seen Haaland 9 shirts fly off the shelves of their club shop since his arrival at the club. This coupled with his ever-growing brand means it is a match made in heaven for both club and player.

Sam Lee’s report indicates that Manchester City’s global star appears set to remain at the club this summer despite the constant links to Real Madrid.
