Has Pep Guardiola laid down a challenge to Jack Grealish to earn his spot in the City lineup?

As it stands currently Jack Grealish is sidelined with a groin injury. The England international suffered the injury in the first half of City’s 3-1 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg win over FC Copenhagen. While there was good news from Guardiola about the injury suffered by Grealish it also did appear that Guardiola has laid down the challenge for Grealish to earn his spot back in the City squad.

Speaking in the embargoed section of his press conference before tonight’s clash with Brentford the City manager was asked about the challenge in front of Grealish to earn his spot back in his starting lineup. Guardiola said: “It depends on his form, and his performance. It depends on that. It depends on him. We will need time. If one player gets injured after 10, 15 minutes it’s because still they were not fit, not fit at all.

It does appear that the challenge is in front of Jack Grealish to regain his place in the City lineup. While he is currently sidelined with injury the City manager has firmly laid down the challenge to the England international. It will be on Grealish to earn his way back into the City starting lineup based on Guardiola’s assessment of Grealish’s path back into his starting eleven.

Before he suffered a groin injury against FC Copenhagen it did appear that Grealish was set to make his mark on the game. The early signs were positive from Grealish before injury struck. The importance of the winger was evident in the early stages of City’s win over FC Copenhagen.

Manchester City will have to face Brentford tonight without their injured winger. It will be on Grealish to earn his way back into City’s lineup according to the City manager.
