Brentford may need to beware of Manchester City’s wounded striker

Brentford may need to beware of Manchester City’s wounded striker Erling Haaland in tonight’s Premier League meeting at the Etihad Stadium. Haaland wasn’t at his best against Chelsea but he will be determined to make amends against Brentford.

It has been a trying time off the pitch for City’s star striker. He has been dealing with the passing of his grandmother recently. Even though Haaland is thought of like a robot he is human and the loss of a relative would have had an impact on Haaland.

It was an admirable effort of City’s number 9 to play through such trying personal circumstances against Chelsea. He did cut a forlorn figure at the final whistle of Saturday’s game. But tonight’s game against Brentford gives City’s wounded striker the perfect opportunity to make amends for his display against Chelsea.

The beauty of football is the games come thick and fast, especially at this time of the season. With a game every three days it doesn’t leave much time to dwell on performances like the one Haaland had against Chelsea. Another opportunity is presented quickly and tonight’s game is just that for Erling Haaland. A dominant display from the Norwegian international could go a long way to helping City to a crucial three points.

There is also the opportunity for Haaland to finally break his duck against Brentford. So far he hasn’t scored against Thomas Frank’s side during his time at Manchester City. He has scored against every Premier League side he has faced in his City career bar one. There is only one team remaining for Haaland to score against and that is tonight’s opponent.

Given his performance against Chelsea Haaland will likely be intent on making amends tonight. That could bode well for Pep Guardiola’s side.
