With Bernardo Silva’s future in doubt could City raid the Bundesliga?

With the annual saga over Bernardo Silva’s future beginning again could Manchester City make a raid on the Bundesliga this summer? A recent report indicates that the world champions have their eyes on Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala.

Harry Pratt has reported for the Daily Star that Manchester City had scouts present for Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-nil win over Bayern Munich last weekend. Pratt reveals that the focus of City’s scouts were Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Pratt further reports that City have had their eye on Wirtz for some time now. Furthermore, Pratt adds that Manchester City have been alerted to Musiala’s contract situation at Bayern Munich. The German international has two years remaining on his deal but a new deal hasn’t been agreed.

Does Bernardo Silva’s future impact Manchester City’s summer plans?

The pair of German internationals do fit the bill as ideal signings for Manchester City. Given their age, talent and undoubted potential they could slot immediately into Pep Guardiola’s squad. They are also the ideal age given the young core at Manchester City. With Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Oscar Bobb, Rico Lewis, Josko Gvardiol and Julian Alvarez already at the club Wirtz and Musiala would add to the impressive young stocks at Manchester City.

There is also the potential of Bernardo Silva departing Manchester City this summer. Fichajes has reported that PSG are confident of securing a deal for the City star. While Bernardo signed a new contract with City last summer there is a release clause in play in his new deal with the European champions. Fabrizio Romano reported when Bernardo’s new deal was announced that it included a £50 million release clause. If Bernardo does decide he wants to leave the champions it seems a straightforward move to complete for any interested party.

Summary

What Bernardo Silva brings to Manchester City cannot be replaced. He is one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s squad. If he were to depart Wirtz or Musiala may be the ideal replacement. While they aren’t the same type of player as the Portuguese midfielder they are elite players in their own right.

If City were to lose Bernardo this summer City could do a lot worse than adding Wirtz or Musiala to their ranks to soften the blow of Bernardo’s departure.
