The news this week has been dominated by Kylian Mbappe’s decision to leave PSG. The next destination for Mbappe will be a hot topic of conversation until his next move is announced. But could his decision accelerate Erling Haaland’s contract talks with Manchester City?
Spanish publication AS reports that Real Madrid’s pursuit of Mbappe may affect their chase of City’s number 9. AS also reports that if Real Madrid lands Mbappe it could accelerate Haaland’s contract talks with the world champions. Furthermore, AS adds that if Haaland does sign a new deal with City his agent Rafaela Pimenta would like to include an option that could see Haaland depart Manchester City in the future.
Jack Gaughan has previously reported for the Daily Mail that the world champions were pushing to extend Haaland’s contract with the club. Given Haaland’s exceptional form for Pep Guardiola’s side, a contract extension would be a massive boost for the world and European champions.
Kylian Mbappe’s decision could accelerate Haaland’s contract talks with Manchester City. Real Madrid have long been linked with a move for Haaland. AS previously reported of the La Liga giant’s interest in securing the Norwegian striker.
Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have been linked since their rise to the top of world football. The pair have long been thought of as the next rivalry in football following on from Messi and Ronaldo. Now the decision by Kylian Mbappe to leave PSG appears to have linked the pair again. Given current FFP regulations it does appear that Real Madrid are in a situation where they could sign either Mbappe or Haaland.
But that situation could potentially work in Manchester City’s favour. If Mbappe does land at the Bernabeu it could position the club perfectly to extend Haaland’s stay at the Etihad.
