Pep Guardiola has both good and bad news on the injury front for City

Pep Guardiola provided mixed news on the injury front as Manchester City prepare to face Chelsea on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. City have several players in doubt with injury concerns heading into tomorrow’s crucial Premier League encounter.

The City manager provided an update on Jack Grealish and said he wouldn’t be available for tomorrow’s match. A report from Mike McGrath of the Telegraph indicated that Grealish faces 2/3 weeks on the sidelines. The England international went off early in the first half of City’s midweek win over FC Copenhagen. Speaking during his pre-game press conference Pep Guardiola said: “Jack I think will not be ready. I don’t know (his condition). I need to speak with the doctors. He is not able to play tomorrow.

Pep Guardiola also provided an update on Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic and Sergio Gomez. Bernardo Silva was substituted late in City’s midweek win after a heavy knock on his ankle. Mateo Kovacic and Sergio Gomez both missed the game against FC Copenhagen. When asked about the status of the trio Guardiola said: “Bernardo we will assess today in the afternoon training session. Kova is training and Sergio as well. The rest we will see.”

It was mixed news on the injury front for the world champions. With Josko Gvardiol already out Jack Grealish will now join him on the sidelines. Mateo Kovacic and Sergio Gomez returning from injury is a welcome boost for the treble winners. City hoping that Bernardo comes up for tomorrow’s game given his importance to the team.

Tomorrow’s clash with Chelsea is another big game for the champions. They will be seeking to make it 12 consecutive wins in all competitions and keep pressure on Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
