Manchester City’s forgotten winger is still searching for his best form

Manchester City’s forgotten winger Jack Grealish is still searching for his best form. This season has seen the England international fall down the pecking order as his form and the performances of his teammates have combined to keep the winger out of the City starting lineup.

Grealish was a key piece of Manchester City’s treble success last season. He featured prominently in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven as City went on to secure the treble. The role of Grealish on the left wing was a key part of City’s success last season.

This season has been a different story for the winger. His form this campaign hasn’t reached the level of last season from Grealish. There has also been the sparkling form of Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden which has made the pair almost automatic selections for Pep Guardiola. That coupled with Jeremy Doku’s arrival from Rennes has meant places are at a premium in the City starting eleven.

Speaking in the embargoed section of his pre-game press conference Pep Guardiola was asked about Manchester City’s forgotten winger and why he hadn’t featured recently. The City manager said: “He’s doing the steps to get to his best level and now he’s competing with a player playing in a high level, and this is the only reason why (he has not played much). He has to demand from himself to come back to what he was, especially last season and all the period at Villa, and I’m looking forward to giving him minutes.”

The challenge is there for Jack Grealish to find his best form to secure a place in Pep Guardiola’s lineup. At his best, he is a crucial player for the champions. It is up to Grealish to find his best form to return to City lineup.
