City’s midfield general say his team’s chase for history is their motivation

Manchester City’s midfield general Rodri believes the chance to create history is motivating Pep Guardiola’s squad. The champions are chasing their fourth consecutive Premier League title this season. It is a feat that hasn’t been achieved before in Premier League history.

City are also bidding to repeat the treble they famously won last season. To win the treble once is a monumental achievement but to do it twice would cement Pep Guardiola’s team as one of the greatest in English football history.

The world champions are currently fighting on three fronts in a bid to repeat last season’s heroics. If they could defend the treble it would be an unparalleled achievement. But with a tight Premier League title currently taking shape, and the known pitfalls of the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup standing in their way City will have to be at their best to repeat the feat. But the opportunity to do something unprecedented is there for the taking for Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Despite a packed schedule, the chance to create history is motivating Manchester City. In an interview shared by the Liverpool Echo City’s midfield general Rodri says the motivation to create history fuels Pep Guardiola’s squad. He said: “We need to find new goals. We can achieve history this year in the way we can achieve four in a row. The players really feel that they want to do something that no-one has ever done before. That’s the thing. Individually, you think: ‘I want to do this. I want to do it again.’ Because the feeling when you win is great and you still have the team saying: ‘We can go for more.”

The chance to create history is there for Manchester City. It won’t be a lack of motivation that stops Pep Guardiola’s squad from achieving their goals. With motivation high in the City squad they have every chance to repeat last seasons heroics and create history.
