Kevin De Bruyne is Manchester City’s ace in the pack and he could be the difference in this season’s Premier League title race. Since he has returned from a 5 month injury layoff he has more than made up for lost time.
After his match-winning cameo against Newcastle De Bruyne has continued his strong form. His corner set up City’s winner for Nathan Ake against Tottenham in the FA Cup last Friday. If he had his shooting boots on against Spurs he would’ve scored another crucial goal moments before Ake’s decisive strike. During last night’s 3-1 win over Burnley, De Bruyne showed why he is City’s ace in the pack during this season’s title race.
Right from kick-off it was clear that De Bruyne was up for his first start since his return. His energy was up and he was at the heart of many of Pep Guardiola’s sides attacks. When the Belgian midfielder is on form there isn’t a better player in the Premier League nor world football. Across the 70 minutes he was on the pitch his undoubted quality was on full display. There will be tougher opponents ahead than Burnley but it’s clear that De Bruyne is on a mission.
One piece of play showed exactly what De Bruyne brings and how critical he will be in this season’s title race. His assist for Julian Alvarez to score his and City’s second of the night was everything that makes De Bruyne so special. The skill, the speed of thought and the execution were everything the Manchester City legend is known for.
