Is a Bayern Munich star Manchester City’s solution at left-back?

Could a Bayern Munich star be Manchester City’s long-term solution at left back? A recent report indicates that the European champions are monitoring the contract situation of Alphonso Davies. The Canadian international is contracted until the end of 2025 with the Bundesliga champions. A report from Ryan Taylor of the Mirror indicates that Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are monitoring the situation with the Bayern Munich star.

Left-back has long been a position where Manchester City haven’t had a specialist for the position. Over Pep Guardiola’s reign, he has used Fabian Delph, Olexander Zinchenko, Nathan Ake and more recently Josko Gvardiol in the position. While it hasn’t affected the European champions on the pitch there has always appeared to be a need for a specialist left-back. Josko Gvardiol is beginning to make the position his own this season. But if Alphonso Davies does become available Manchester City may join the chase for the Canadian international.

Since breaking into Bayern Munich’s first team Alphonso Davies has become one of the premier left-backs in world football. Blessed with lightning pace and technical ability he has become a key player for the German giants. He also has an eye for pass and is an attacking weapon for Bayern Munich. Throughout his Bayern Munich career, he has scored 6 goals and added 28 assists in 179 appearances for the German club. That highlights that as well as his defensive work he is also a weapon going forward. His ability to play as a left winger would also make his versatility a weapon for Pep Guardiola.

If the Canadian defender did choose to leave Bayern Manchester City would face competition for his signature. As Taylor’s report indicates Real Madrid and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Davies.

If the Bayern Munich star does become available this summer it could be a story to watch for this summer. City have always seemed to need a left-back and Davies may be the ideal candidate for the position.
