Manchester City 1 Tottenham 0: City player ratings as the FA Cup holders advance

Here are the City player ratings as the FA Cup holders finally scored a goal and won a game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a determined 1-nil victory over Tottenham. An 88th-minute Nathan Ake goal was enough to see Manchester City book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

In truth, Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the game for the vast majority of the contest. It appeared that the game would be one of frustration for the treble winners. They were in control for large portions of the match but as chances went by it looked like a replay was on the cards. But Nathan Ake scored late on to send the travelling fans delirious and finally break Manchester City’s duck at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

City player ratings

Stefan Ortega-7/10: Rarely called into action but made one crucial save in the second half. His distribution was fantastic. Ortega is way too good to be a backup keeper and showed it again tonight.

Kyle Walker-7/10: Looked back to his best at the back. Made one crucial intervention late on Timo Werner and was good in possession.

Ruben Dias-7/10: A quality performance from Dias. Snuffed out any Tottenham threat and looked back to the player he has always been during his spell at City. Did however give away a couple of late free kicks which dropped his overall rating.

Nathan Ake-8/10: Yet another brilliant performance. He scored the winner but at the back he was sublime. On form, he is one of the best defenders in Europe.

Josko Gvardiol-7/10: Offered a threat going forward and is becoming vital in City’s possession game. His overall game is very underrated by the majority.

Rodri-6/10: Didn’t dictate midfield in his usual manner. Was caught in possession on occasions but did his defensive job as required.

Mateo Kovacic-8/10: Was City’s man-of-the-match alongside Nathan Ake. The Croatian was brilliant in midfield with another quality display.

Bernardo Silva-7.5/10: Was all over the pitch in an all-action display. Was a crucial piece in City’s dominance of the game.

Phil Foden-6.5/10: An almost night from Foden. Everything he tried almost came off but he kept toiling away for the entire game.

Oscar Bobb-6.5/10: Showed some flashes of brilliance before being substituted. Didn’t look out of place in such a big game.

Julian Alvarez-6/10: Toiled away but not his day. Saw his best chance blocked just after half-time.

Substitutes

Kevin De Bruyne-6/10: Not as impactful off the bench as he was against Newcastle. Could’ve scored late on but fired a good chance wide. Was his delivery from the corner which led to Ake’s late winner.

Jeremy Doku-6/10: Gave City energy when introduced in the second half. Appears to need games to get his touch back after a long injury layoff.
