Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has taken out the Best FIFA Men’s Coach award at the FIFA Best Awards overnight. It capped off a remarkable 2022/23 campaign where he led his side to the treble. City also took out the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to make it one of the most memorable campaigns in club history.
Guardiola beat Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan and former Napoli and current Italy manager Luciano Spalleti who were also shortlisted for the award.
Upon receiving the award Pep Guardiola was quick to acknowledge the Manchester City players, staff and owners for their contribution to the club’s success. The City manager said: “I want to share this trophy and moment with our owners at Manchester City. On behalf of my backroom staff and myself, I want to say thank you so much to our players, that they have done for this club for eight years already together. Without exception all of them. Thanks so much for this incredible journey. Because they don’t know what it means every morning to go there and live with them, winning or losing it doesn’t matter – living with them has been incredible.”
The Manchester City manager also added that he was the recipient of the award due to the club’s success. He added: “We are here because we won a lot, and that’s thousands of people involved in our success. I’m really happy for the season we had. Because it was an incredible journey. In the end, we did it, but the pleasure of being there was incredible.”
Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City squad are currently on their midseason break. They will return next week in the FA Cup fourth round where they face Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
