Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has taken out the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper Award overnight. The City shot-stopper had his memorable 2022/23 season honoured at the FIFA Best Awards overnight.
It is a fitting reward for the consistency and performances of Ederson during the 2022/23 campaign. He was an integral part of Manchester City’s success. The keeper put in a performance for the ages in Manchester City’s 1-nil win over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final. He made a string of fine saves in Istanbul to keep a clean sheet. It helped guide City to their maiden Champions League crown.
Upon receiving the award Ederson was quick to thank his teammates and coaching staff. He said: “To win this award is a great honour and I would like to thank everybody that voted for me. I feel very proud to be named as the best goalkeeper in the world and for it to be voted for by other professionals. It would be not possible without my team-mates, Pep Guardiola and all the coaching staff.”
Emerson also thanked the Manchester City goalkeeping staff. He was also determined to achieve more success. He added: “I also have to say thank you to the goalkeeping coaches and the other goalkeepers for all their huge support and help. It was an incredible year, one we will never forget, and now we will keep working hard to try to keep on delivering more success.”
The award is a fitting achievement for Ederson. He is one of Manchester City’s most important players and his contribution is invaluable to Pep Guardiola’s side. With his shot-stopping and passing ability he is the perfect goalkeeper for the world champions. While other players get the plaudits City’s success wouldn’t be possible without Ederson.
