A busy summer transfer window appears on the horizon for Manchester City. Reports indicate it may be a quiet January window for City. That could potentially point to it being a sign that the club is preparing for a busy summer.
Who has been linked to the world champions?
Manchester City have been linked with a host of elite young players. Graeme Bailey and Jamie Spencer of 90min.com have previously reported that City have their eye on Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. Jamal Musiala has also been linked to the treble winners. Transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that Manchester City and Real Madrid are Musiala’s preferred destinations if he leaves Bayern Munich.
It would appear that the champions are targeting elite young talent to add to their squad. With Wayne Veysey of footballinsider247.com reporting that Roony Bardghji is another potential target for Manchester City it appears that a regeneration of the squad may be on the agenda. The players linked to the treble winners are all elite young players with their best football ahead of them. That has been the preferred type of player that Manchester City have targeted previously.
A busy summer may loom on the horizon
David Ornstein of the Athletic believes it could be a busy summer at the European champions. Speaking on the BBC’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast Ornstein believes it could be a busy summer at City. “It’s fair to expect a busy summer at City. Especially given there are no senior arrivals anticipated this month.”
Ornstein also believes the champions could also be in the market for a right winger. Pedro Neto has been named as a potential target. “I’m constantly hearing another winger is on the agenda. Players such as Pedro Neto will be on City’s radar.”
It is shaping as a busy summer for the champions. With elite young players and a right winger appearing to be on the agenda, they look to be set to be big players in the summer market. The champions don’t tend to stand still in the transfer market and look poised to make a splash this summer.
While the summer transfer window is still a few months away it would seem that Manchester City are already making plans to secure their primary transfer targets.
