Despite recent links to Real Madrid, there are no indications that Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland is close to leaving the club. Recent reports from Spain have claimed that the La Liga giants are keen to add Haaland to their squad next summer. A closer look at the available information would indicate that a Haaland departure from the champions doesn’t appear on the horizon.
Haaland linked to Real while also being happy at Manchester City
Spanish publication AS reported earlier this week that Haaland would move to Real Madrid tomorrow given the opportunity. They further reported that Madrid could sign City’s star striker for £86 million due to a release clause in his contract. The report would indicate that a deal could be struck for Haaland this summer.
Martin Blackburn has reported for the Sun that the world champions are confident of keeping Haaland. He further reports that the champions intend to offer Haaland a new contract. Any new deal would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League Blackburn adds.
On the BBC’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast journalist Luke Edwards shared his thoughts on the speculation on Haaland’s future. He said: “Haaland, I’m led to believe, well-placed people are saying he may even extend his contract at Manchester City. He’s very, very happy there. Do I think Haaland is going to spend his entire career in Manchester, of course he’s not. But I don’t see any reason to believe he’s going to leave Manchester City any time soon. I think this is wishful thinking on the part of the Spanish media and Real Madrid.”
Based on the available reports it is clear that Real Madrid covet City’s star striker. The treble winners did beat the Spanish giants to sign the striker from Borussia Dortmund in July 2022. There will always be reports of the La Liga powerhouse being interested in securing the world’s best players as evidenced by their links to Kylian Mbappe. Erling Haaland is no exception to these links also.
But it would appear that Haaland is more likely to stay at Manchester City for the foreseeable future. With the reports that the striker is happy at the European champions, there doesn’t seem to be any inkling of an impending departure from Haaland. It would appear a contract extension is more likely than a departure for City’s star striker.
He appeared happy as he enjoyed his team’s win over Huddersfield last weekend. City’s star striker has become a much-loved part of the City squad. Haaland is regularly featured in videos enjoying his time at the club, and his friendship with Jack Grealish is a particular highlight. None of these appear to be signs of a player looking to depart the club shortly.
A day could come when Haaland leaves City. It just doesn’t appear that it will be this summer based on recent reports. The Spanish media do tend to push players towards Real Madrid and Barcelona but they may have to wait a while longer before Erling Haaland does make a move to Spain.
