Manchester City’s young full-back Sergio Gomez is set to stay at the club for the remainder of the season. A recent report indicates that the youngster was considering leaving the club due to a lack of playing time. But he has decided to stay at the club after talks with Pep Guardiola it has been revealed.
TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Gomez had considered leaving the treble winners after a lack of first-team opportunities. In addition to the Spanish youth international considering leaving Manchester City, they add that City manager Pep Guardiola has convinced Sergio Gomez to finish the season with the world champions. Furthermore, they also report that there is no indication if the young full-back has been promised more playing time.
It had also been reported by Pianeta Milan that AC Milan had considered making a move for the left-back. They further report that the youngster was open to leaving the world champions this month. But they add that talks with Guardiola have ended any potential AC Milan move for Sergio Gomez.
It has been another development season so far for the former Anderlecht full-back. Gomez has only made 9 appearances for the European champions so far this campaign. He did however start during last weekend’s 5-nil win over Huddersfield. Since arriving at the club during the 2022 summer transfer window he has only made 32 appearances for Manchester City. While playing time has been in short supply for Gomez he is a player with immense potential. He starred for Spain during the UEFA under-21 European Championships last summer. Given his age and potential, he could develop into a first-team player in time.
A move in the summer may potentially be on the cards for Gomez depending on how the remainder of the season plays out for the youngster.
