Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden have helped set the table for Manchester City to make a charge in the second half of the season. The pair have been in outstanding form of late to inspire City. With key players Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku all beginning to return from injury their efforts have laid a platform for Pep Guardiola’s side to launch into the second half of the season.
With De Bruyne, Haaland and Doku all out for significant periods the world champions needed players to step up. It has been their World Cup winner and Academy poster boy who has led the charge. The quality of the pair has never been in doubt. But when the treble winners needed players to fill the void left by injury they have been two of the first to step up to the plate.
Phil Foden continued his remarkable recent form in yesterday’s 5-nil win over Huddersfield Town. His brace ensured that the FA Cup holders began their title defence in style. On top of his goals, his all-around display continued his evolution as a player. On form, there wouldn’t be many better players across Europe than Foden.
Julian Alvarez has filled the void left by Erling Haaland’s injury and seized his opportunity. He scored his 5th goal in 4 games yesterday to continue his sparkling form. With Alvarez in fine form, it has allowed City the luxury of easing Haaland back into full fitness.
The pair have helped lay a solid foundation for the treble winners to attack the second half of the season. If City do make their traditional charge in the second half of the season the efforts of Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden would’ve been crucial to setting the table for what lies ahead.
