Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided an update on key trio Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne. Haaland and Doku both returned to full training this week after injury. De Bruyne has continued his recovery from hamstring surgery as he nears a return.
Speaking before City’s FA Cup clash with Huddersfield Town the City manager provided an update on the trio. He said they will likely take a cautious approach with them as they return from injury. Guardiola told the media: “They are ready, the last two or three training sessions with us Jeremy feels really good, Kevin as well. Kevin was a long time [out] so we have to think about his condition. We have to be patient and exactly give him the right minutes. Erling is a little better, his bone so we need to be careful, [he’s had] two or three sessions and feels good.”
Pep Guardiola also told the media he wasn’t sure if the trio would be available for Sunday’s game or next weekend’s Premier League match against Newcastle. He did add that the trio would definitely be available after those two games. Pep added: “Hopefully (they will be able to play soon but), I don’t know for Sunday or for Newcastle, but for the rest they will be ready.”
While Sunday’s game FA Cup tie against Huddersfield may be too soon for Haaland and Doku it should see the return of Kevin De Bruyne in some capacity. The Belgian international returned to the City squad last weekend against Sheffield United as an unused substitute.
With the Manchester City squad hit by illness this week it may see Doku and Haaland return to the bench this weekend against Huddersfield Town.
