With Haaland and Doku back in training how far away is John Stones?

With Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku back training with the Manchester City squad it leaves only John Stones out of action for the world champions. The England international went off injured during his side’s 3-1 win over Everton. With Haaland and Doku back in training when can Stones be expected back with Pep Guardiola’s squad?

After going off injured just before halftime in City’s win over Everton there were fears that Stones would be out for a significant period. Pep Guardiola told the media immediately following the win that the injury suffered by Stones didn’t look good. He said: “It doesn’t look good but we will see. It’s his ankle.”

Guardiola also spoke of the injury suffered by the defender before his side’s win over Sheffield United. Though the City manager wasn’t certain when the defender would return: “I don’t know, but for a while. Hopefully, maybe, maybe Newcastle, or maybe after Abu Dhabi.”

The Manchester City manager didn’t provide a further update on the defender following his side’s win at the weekend over Sheffield United. Jack Gaughan reported for the Daily Mail that Stones was set for tests on his ankle after he suffered the injury.

With Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku back in training, and Kevin De Bruyne edging closer to a return it leaves only John Stones on the injured list. Judging by Pep Guardiola’s updates a February return seems most likely for Stones.

Given his importance to the treble winner’s set-up, they’ll be hoping to have him back sooner rather than later. With his injury record this season it would be no surprise to see the champions take a cautious approach with the defender.
