Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney reacts to the news that Claudio Echeverri is on his way to Manchester City. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the news via his official X account overnight.
City’s signing of Echeverri represents a major coup for the treble winners. The River Plate sensation has been dubbed the next Lionel Messi in some quarters. The world champions also beat some of Europe’s biggest clubs to the wonderkid’s signature. Romano had previously reported that Barcelona and Chelsea were keen to acquire the playmaker. But Manchester City have stolen a march on their rivals to secure one of the most in-demand youngsters in football.
Romano further reports that the European champions will pay a fee of €14.5 million for Echeverri. He adds that in addition to the fee City will also pay €9 million in performance-related add-ons. The Argentinian wonderkid will also remain on loan at River Plate until December as first reported by Fabrizio Romano.
It is exciting news for the world champions. To add one of the premier young prospects in world football to their ranks is an exciting prospect for Manchester City. With Echeverri remaining on loan at River Plate he will be following the same path as Julian Alvarez. The City striker also spent time on loan at River Plate before he joined Pep Guardiola’s squad. Given the success of Alvarez since at the Etihad the stage is set for Echeverri to follow in his footsteps.
